New Editing Power & Speed on Intense Debate

You may have already noticed, but just in case I thought I’d point it out. Last weekend we gave our servers a massive upgrade allowing us to continue to handle the enormous growth Intense Debate has been experiencing. This overhaul has made Intense Debate faster than ever! So if you notice that extra little step in your stride, feather in your hat or what have you, it’s probably because of our new servers!

In addition we’ve also added new editing power to Intense Debate comments. This has been one of the most requested features and we’re pretty excited to deliver it. If your fingers slip or you have a change of heart, there’s no need to fret, you can edit your comments right there immediately!

  1. It's cool.
Maybe some configuration options for this feature would be great. πŸ˜‰

  2. I'd like to see the functionality that the blog owner could set a time limit that a commenter could edit their comments. Having a time limit prevents people from changing their comments if a debate breaks out.

  3. Thanks for the feedback Scott and Matthieu.

Scott – that's a great idea. Where would you like this option to be located – settings page at intensedebate.com or elsewhere?

Matthieu – What kind of configuration options do you have in mind?

    Thanks again! This is awesome!

  4. The Comment's link only appears when the entire site loads, haloscan.com shows the comments soon after the post load. There's a technical reason to it or it's a javascript bug?

  5. Haloscan has a script in the HEAD section, maybe this is the reason that make it so fast on the loading. Copy&paste FTW!!!

  6. Hey!

We don't want to slow down your blog more than necessary, therefore the script that swaps out the links loads as the last thing on the page. While a service like Haloscan seems to load real fast, it's very relative since you have to wait for it to load. With our method the important parts of your blog gets to load before the comment link count.

Do you have any more feedback on our service? Please contact us at feedback@intensedebate.com. Thanks!

  7. Ok, but it's not the Intense Debate that is slowing down my blog, my blog that slows down Intense Debate, because it needs to load entirely so the Comments appears… if you want to load Intense Debate first (just like haloscan), no need to worry, go ahead! In my blog, user comments are more interesting than my posts.

Hey, any chances to copy the amazing "Free Ratings" from haloscan too?

  8. Hey! Well, the load order might become a blog setting in the future. Good point πŸ™‚

Incorporating ratings to Intense Debate is something we're thinking of right now.

  9. Could you put the "edit comments" option in the Settings? People are editing comments a lot and modifying information where it shouldn't be. Or just display the "Edit" link for just one hour after publish a comment, it's enough time to make changes.
