We’re stoked to introduce our latest plugin, Facebook Share for Comments. This nifty plugin was written by Jon, the master code ninja himself, and gives your commenters the option to click to share their comments on Facebook after they post.
While we have offered this as standard integration with our Facebook Connect feature, the new Facebook Share for Comments plugin gives all commenters (IntenseDebate, WordPress.com, Facebook Connect, Twitter Sign-in, and Guest users) the option to post back to their Facebook activity stream when they comment.
After posting a comment, just select the “Share on Facebook” button → connect to your Facebook account (if you’re not already logged-in) → customize the message you’re posting in your activity stream → hit submit!
The implementation is similar to our Facebook Share button plugin, so you don’t need to setup a new Facebook app or enter a Facebook API Key. Like all of our plugins, you just have to go to your Plugins Directory at http://intensedebate.com/plugins, select the “Activate” link next to the plugin, and voilà, the plugin is activated and ready to use in your comments. There’s no additional code for you to manually install, so there’s no need to get your hands dirty messing around with your template.
Happy May 5th everyone. To celebrate we’ve released two updates: bit.ly URL’s for tweeted comments, and comment voting for everyone.
We used to use tinyurl.com for link shortening when you sent a simultaneous tweet when commenting. Now we’ve switched to bit.ly and you can track real-time click data for your tweets.
And in the spirit of freedom, we have enabled comment voting for everyone: IntenseDebate, WordPress.com, Facebook Connect, and Twitter Sign-in users, along with Guest commenters.
Both of these updates have been requested frequently so we’re happy to deliver. Enjoy! 🙂
In case you’re not familiar with it, Google Buzz is the latest creation from Google Labs and is built into your Gmail interface. Per Google:
Go beyond status messages
Share updates, photos, videos, and more.
Start conversations about the things you find interesting.
Our Google Buzz Plugin gives you the option to share a blog post right through your IntenseDebate comment section. Just select the “Buzz It” icon at the top right of the comment section → login to your Google Account → add a message → hit submit and you’ve buzzed.
Please note: in order for it to work properly your Buzz account needs to be setup.
Like all IntenseDebate plugins, adding advanced features to your comment section is a piece of cake: just visit your Plugins Page at http://intensedebate.com/plugins, and select “Activate” next to the plugin. That’s all! There’s no additional code for you to manually install, so there’s no need to get your hands dirty messing around with your template.
There are loads of interesting debates happening across the IntenseDebate network. One of our goals is to highlight those conversations so you can check them out and add your own two cents. We’re all about content discovery, and we’re always looking for new ways to do this.
We are kicking off a new series of blog entries that feature cool debates and blog posts taking place across the IntenseDebate network, and we would love your help. Leave us a comment and let us know about interesting conversations and posts that you’ve come across or participated in. If it’s super-cool we’ll feature it right here on our blog and give it some link-love.
Here’s how you can get involved:
Keep an eye out for interesting conversations and cool blog posts as you cruise around the interweb.
Grab the comment permalink or blog post link (instructions below), paste it in a comment below, and let us know why you dig it.
Grabbing a permalink:
Locate the timestamp for the comment (formatted as “10 minutes ago”)
Hover your mouse cursor over the timestamp and right-click with your mouse.
Depending on which web browser you’re using, there will be an option to “Copy Link Location” or “Copy Link”.
Select that, and then paste it in your comment below.
We’re excited to introduce a new enhancement for our Facebook Connect implementation: share comments back to Facebook. We recently rolled this out, so if you use Facebook Connect to post comments in IntenseDebate then you might have noticed this.
Our Facebook Connect integration is a cool way to let your readers post comments using their Facebook profiles. With our latest enhancement they can now opt to share their comments with their Facebook friends when they post using Facebook Connect. Just like our “tweet this” Twitter integration, this is a great way to get your friends in the debate and drive new traffic to your blog and comments.
When you’re logged into Facebook Connect you’ll notice a new “Share on Facebook” checkbox just below the comment textbox on the right. Select that when you post using your Facebook Connect account and you’ll have the option to customize the text that you post back to Facebook.
