Coming Soon to an IntenseDebate Comment Section Near You

We have a number of super-cool projects going on here at IntenseDebate, and we thought we’d give you a sneak-peek at what’s around the corner.

Localization
There is no question about it – localization is by far the most requested feature. We make a habit of listening to our users, and internationalization is almost here! If all goes according to plan, we will be ready to start rounding up multilingual folks to help us translate the IntenseDebate comments section (the bit that appears on your website) within a few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled on this blog for a call for volunteers.

Admin Comment Editing
Again, ask and yee shall receive. We’re in the final stages of testing a new feature that will allow you (if you’re a site admin of course) to edit the details of all comments on all posts on your site. No more letting your users run wild, unless you’re into that sort of thing.

WordPress Plugin Innovations: SyncRepair
One last tidbit that you may have heard on the support forums or around the place; we’re in the final stages of testing our sexy new self-healing comment sync, a.k.a, SyncRepair. SyncRepair looks for discrepancies between the comments stored in your IntenseDebate account and those stored in WordPress. If it finds anything that doesn’t look right, it’ll re-sync those comments and get you back in good shape.

This is only the tip of the iceberg! We’re working on our opus. Details to come…

What do you think? We love your feedback.

  5. Mike, what version of the plugin are you running? Can you try installing v2.3 and see if that clears up the issue? You can download it here.

    Comment by Michael Koenig — August 20, 2009 @ 11:32 pm
  6. I'm running 2.4.1 I haven't got a decent FTP so downloading to my computer will take an age to get it over.
I will try again when you make the next release.

    Thanks

  7. Mike, we're looking into this now. I'll have some news for you shortly.

  8. That SyncRepair sounds quite interesting, looking forward to the updates =)

Oh, and just a small question. When I view my own blog while on my Iphone, I can't actually see any of the comments that are left using the Intense Debate wordpress system. It tells me I have (3) comments, for example, but I can't ever view them till I get back home to my PC. Is that just a problem being mobile? or Perhaps wordpress / my theme?

  9. Can you provide a link to where this is occurring? I'll take a look. Thanks.

  12. So impressed that you took the time to give us a sneak peak at what you're working on; although not as obviously important as focusing on the code, this sort of inside report – or, as Matt would call it, "fluffy PR" 😉 – helps to keep us excited about IntenseDebate and we will communicate that excitement to others.

In particular, this news addresses some of the concerns people have had about using distributed commenting systems and equips us to more effectively argue the case for IntenseDebate.

The Tweetmeme plugin is pretty cool too, good to see new plugins starting to appear, thanks!

  13. It's our pleasure. You've given us invaluable feedback over the past several months via Get Satisfaction, our blog, email, Matt's "6 Ways" post… I think just about everywhere except twitter. 😉 We're listening, and you can expect to hear more from us moving forward (there's a lot to post about). Thanks!

  14. Yeah, I am all for an "update" of things to come. That is just good ethics! The tweetmeme plugin as well as a few others are pretty neat. Things look to be going in the right direction.

  15. That's probably the post with the greatest news I've read here since I began using IntenseDebate. Thanks a lot, guys! Waiting anxiously for all of that.

  19. SyncRepair sounds great and I hope it will finally fix the annoying issue with the duplicate imported comments after edits. However this is certainly the kind of thing that needs to be done right as it may just as well lead to mayhem on old imported comments and the like. I hope it will have good undo features 😉

  32. The admin editing comments option is somethign we've needed for ages.

I'd also like to see an option to have another url link on your name instead of your ID profile.

    Comment by Dean Saliba — August 23, 2009 @ 12:46 pm
  33. Thanks for the feedback. We'll take a look at providing that option as we continue to expand our customization options.

  34. And "they" said it couldn't get any better. Awesome job guys.

On a different note, I hate to post this here, but I'm not getting any response to my request for a donate button on your site through email. Anyway, what I mean is…how can I give you money?

    Comment by Chad — August 25, 2009 @ 6:25 pm
  35. This admin edit looks promising. I wonder if it will allow you to attribute a comment to an intense debate profile. I would really like to have all of my own comments show in my ID profile that I have left on my blog before I installed ID.

  36. I am interest in Facebook Connect. I’am not entirely sure what you mean, by currently there is no language list since we do not offer language. I’am volunteering my self to translate for Indonesian. We’re still rolling it slowly. If you haven’t heard from us yet please hang in there.
