We’re pleased to answer your calls and release two new admin features this week. Big ups to our dev team for keeping the good stuff coming and for keepin’ it real.
Close Comments On Posts
Let’s face it sometimes debates just get too intense. Honestly, it’s a health risk – blood pressures start rising, heart rates elevate…look we don’t need anyone keeling over from a heart attack. We don’t want to have to put a disclaimer on IntenseDebate that you should have Bayer Aspirin on hand when using our product. We’re concerned about your health. IntenseDebate cares.
So we thought it would be a good idea to take some preventative measures and give blog publishers the ability to close comments on posts. This feature can be accessed in your IntenseDebate comments on your blog post under the “Admin Options” tab.
Commenter Account Stipulations
In staying with the theme of keepin’ it real, blog publishers can now set commenter account stipulations. That’s just fancy talk for saying that you can opt to require all of your commenters to create IntenseDebate accounts in order to comment on your posts. Now you can choose whether or not you want to allow anonymous comments on your posts. If you’ve had issues with spammers or repeat anonymous comment offenders, you can require them to create an account and keep the debate real. This feature is available in your blog settings page at IntenseDebate.com (login, select the tab named after your blog, followed by the “Settings” sub-tab).
As always, we’d love your feedback.
Word out,
The Fellas at IntenseDebate

You may have already noticed, but just in case I thought I’d point it out. Last weekend we gave our servers a massive upgrade allowing us to continue to handle the enormous growth Intense Debate has been experiencing. This overhaul has made Intense Debate faster than ever! So if you notice that extra little step in your stride, feather in your hat or what have you, it’s probably because of our new servers!
In addition we’ve also added new editing power to Intense Debate comments. This has been one of the most requested features and we’re pretty excited to deliver it. If your fingers slip or you have a change of heart, there’s no need to fret, you can edit your comments right there immediately!

As a part of our feature release week, we’ve also added some new features to our comment sorting functionality. In addition to what was previously offered (sorting comments by date, user rating, & last activity), Intense Debate users can now choose the default setting for sorting comments on their blog. This option is now available on the blog settings page. By default, Intense Debate comments are now sorted by date, which is the sorting most native commenting systems use.
So go ahead, indulge your inner control freak….setup your blog to sort comments by user rating as the default. Or really go crazy and have your comments sorted by last activity as the default. Your readers will still have the option to view it the way they want, but let them know that this is how your blog is really supposed to be enjoyed!

Today we’ve got a bunch of exciting new stuff for you. We’ve gone through and revamped our comment system, it is now faster, prettier, more usable, and easier to understand. Let us highlight some of the things that are new/changed.
User information box
The menu button is gone, but we’ve replaced it with something much better. Say hello to what we call the “userbox”, a popup that appears when you hover a person’s avatar. It has all the information you need in it: Ways of contacting the person on other sites, a link to their Intense Debate profile, and a personal message that gives you more information about the person. It’s all about giving your commenters an identity. Go ahead, let the world know who you are! It’s easily done on your “Edit profile” page.
Comment system redesign
We’re all about user feedback and improving over time. We saw that the comment system had become too cluttered, and so we cleaned up the structure and gave it a new appearance. We want to make sure that your blog has got the most sleek, useful, and cool comment system around. We’ve raised the bar again.
Post new comment section
While we’re all about improving, some of you felt like the “Post new comment” section was a bit too different from the ones seen on standard blog platforms these days. To help new commenters, and to give the comment system an even cleaner look, we’ve taken it back to the roots. You’ll now find that the fields for credentials are stacked on top of each other.
Intense Debate has never looked better. Look out, though. We’re not even close to being done.
